Hillary Clinton after Trump’s conviction: ‘Anything going on today?’

At the 23rd annual Global Leadership Awards on Thursday night, hosted by the nonprofit Vital Voices Global Partnership, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton seemed to make an indirect reference to former President Donald Trump’s conviction.

Clinton, who was defeated by Trump in the 2016 election, expressed her gratitude as she took the stage at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. With a touch of humor, she asked, “Anything happening today?”

The audience responded with laughter and cheers, to which Clinton added, “Well, I have to tell you, there’s nowhere I’d rather be than right here.”

Trump was found guilty on 34 felony counts for falsifying business records to conceal a hush money payment made to porn star Stormy Daniels before the 2016 election. Prosecutors alleged that Trump falsified the records to hide unlawful interference in the election.

During his campaign against Clinton, Trump had threatened to jail her if he won, with his rally crowds often chanting, “Lock her up!” Clinton has since labeled Trump a threat to democracy and referred to him as an “illegitimate president” in 2019.

Coinciding with Trump’s conviction, Clinton posted on Instagram about new merchandise for her Onward Together organization, which she founded to support leaders advocating for progressive values and defending democracy.

The new item is a mug featuring a faceless Clinton drinking from a teacup with the phrase, “Turns out she was right about everything.” The design “happened to be finalized today,” she noted in the post.

Trump’s sentencing in the hush money case is scheduled for July 11.
