FedEx has announced a new agreement of several years with the NURO automatic driving technology company to test your autonomous delivery vehicle under a pilot program. According to FedEx, the Agreement includes a multiform agreement that will allow the company to evaluate the ways in which the NURO autonomous vehicle can use. The pilot program is taking place in Houston.
Fedex has been exploring the ways in which autonomous technologies can be integrated into their business, including the potential use of automatic driving vehicles to deliver packages on the same day and based on appointments. However, this is a milestone for Nuro, marking its first expansion in the world of the logistics of the plots.
NURO has already been associated with companies in other industries, including Big-Name name corporations such as CVS and Walmart. The company’s autonomous vehicle looks a bit unusual compared to other cars on the street and that is because it serves a unique purpose: it is done only to transport objects, not people. As a result, the NURO is closer than typical delivery cars and, due to its electrical nature, it has zero emissions.
Vehicles like this can one day be the common way of getting articles delivered to your home, including everything from a hot meal to your recipes and other orders. However, there is an inconvenience at this time, which is that the client must walk towards the vehicle and recover their package, a problem that can also be addressed in the future for those who have mobility problems.
