Lizzo Faces “Worst Fear”: Spoofed on “South Park”

In a recent TikTok, Lizzo, the 36-year-old “About Damn Time” singer, responded to her portrayal in the “South Park” special, “South Park: The End of Obesity.” Initially anxious, Lizzo ultimately found humor in the episode.

The “South Park” special, which premiered on Friday, satirizes the trend of celebrities using weight-loss drugs like Ozempic and Mounjaro, featuring characters struggling to obtain these medications. In the episode, Lizzo’s persona is humorously marketed as a low-cost alternative to Ozempic, promoting body positivity. Lizzo, known for her advocacy of body acceptance, is depicted as an empowering influence.

An announcer in the episode claims, “FDA-approved Lizzo makes you feel good about your weight, and it costs 90% less than Ozempic. In case studies, 70% of patients on Lizzo no longer cared how much they weighed. Lizzo helps you eat everything you want and keep physical activity to a minimum.”

Lizzo opened her TikTok by saying, “Guys, my worst fear has been actualized. I’ve been referenced in a ‘South Park’ episode. I’m so scared.” She watched the parody commercial, visibly shocked, but concluded on a positive note, expressing pride in her impact.

“That’s crazy,” she said, reflecting on her influence in promoting self-love to the point where even “South Park” creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone acknowledged her in their long-running series.

The episode begins with Eric Cartman learning from his doctor about the high cost of a weight-loss drug, which isn’t covered by insurance unless prescribed for diabetes. Instead, Cartman is given a “prescription for Lizzo.”

“She’s a really good singer who talks about body positivity and just being happy with the way you look,” says the doctor. I want you to listen to Lizzo five times a day and watch her videos every night before bed. And by the way, you’ll need to keep up with this routine for the rest of your life.

This parody follows a turbulent time for Lizzo, who was sued last year by former dancers accusing her of harassment and weight shaming. Attorney Ron Zambrano criticized Lizzo for alleged behavior contradictory to her public stance on body positivity. Lizzo has denied these allegations and recently addressed the controversy by stating she had “quit giving any negative energy attention.”

For those interested in the episode, “South Park: The End of Obesity” is available for streaming on Paramount+.
