Sean Kingston has been arrested following a police and SWAT team raid on his home in South Florida. The singer was apprehended without incident in Fort Irwin, California, on Thursday evening after the Broward Sheriff’s Office issued an arrest warrant for multiple fraud and theft charges, according to BSO public information officer Carey Codd in an email.
Kingston is set to be booked into a jail in San Bernardino, investigators said. Earlier, Codd mentioned that detectives, along with the Davie Police SWAT team, executed arrest and search warrants at a residence in Southwest Ranches as part of an ongoing investigation. This led to the arrest of Kingston’s 62-year-old mother, Janice Turner, on several fraud and theft charges. The specific details of Turner’s arrest have not been disclosed. Kingston was not at the property during the raid.
In a related issue, Turner was recently sued by Curran Living Trust for $100,000 in unpaid rent for a different Florida location, according to Broward County court documents.
Kingston himself is facing additional legal troubles. He was sued in February by Ver Ver Entertainment for breach of contract and fraud, accused of failing to pay for a 232-inch TV and premium sound system. The lawsuit claims that Kingston used his celebrity status, particularly his connection to Justin Bieber, to negotiate a lower price. The company is seeking $30,000 and attorney fees in a jury trial. Ver Ver Entertainment’s attorney, Dennis Card, told Local 10 News that they plan to retrieve the equipment during the raid.
“He essentially has a sales pitch that he uses to defraud people, convincing them to provide him with expensive items,” Card said.”We are confident that our belongings are located within this residence. Therefore, once the raid concludes, we’ll have a team prepared to reconstruct and reclaim them on behalf of their rightful owner.”
