As a result of long-standing collaboration with Huawei and the latest Aquos R6, Leica finally launches its own smartphone. Announced at a Tokyo press conference earlier today, the phone 1 Leitz Phone 1 is Leica’s first self-marked mobile phone, and it will be an exclusive softbank when it started in July.
The camera manufacturer is not afraid to admit that the phone Leitz 1 is actually an Aquos R6 Rebadged (which is not a bad thing at all), with the alumni highlighting a “Real experience of Leica” up to at the level of industrial design and user interface.
The Leitz 1 phone, named after the original brand of Leica, shares a similar design language with its emblematic cameras and comes with a Leica red point plus a magnetic circular lens cap. But instead of a leather leather, the camera is synonymous with a matte black glass cover to go with the “Leica Silver” metal body – this is 9.5 mm thick and 212 heavy. You can protect the back side with the grouped rigid case.
Like the Aquos R6, the Leitz 1 phone packs a 1-inch 20 megapixel sensor for its main camera F / 1.9, with a 12.6 megapixel selfie camera on the other side. Its 6.6-inch IGZO igzo display provides a sharp 2,730 x 1,260 resolution, as well as a refresh rate of the 240Hz variable using a black frame insertion (in order to reduce the motion blur. ; so it’s really only 120Hz).
While you will also find the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 and 12 GB processor here, you get 256 GB of storage space that is twice as much as the Aquos R6; And you can develop up to 1 Tob via the slot of the microSD card. The generous battery of 5,000 mAh and the IP68 dust / water resistance index are there to stay.
The Leitz 1 phone runs on Android 11 which includes a user interface “largely monochrome” customized by Leica. Unsurprisingly, the camera app offers a “Leitz Look” mode to capture black and white photos, which should keep Leica fans happy. Other than that, the interface looks largely similar to the Android stock base, based on the screenshots indicated during today’s key speech.
For now, the Leitz 1 phone is an exclusive softbank in Japan and requests 187,920 yens or about $ 1,700. Pre-orders begin on June 18 and the phone will be available at the end of July. There is still no word about international availability, so we will keep a narrow eye on other ads.
